Why is football recruiting so hotly contested? If you look at these salaries, you will understandRecently I had a chance to see an article on the University of Texas Rivals site, OrangeBloods.com.   The article spoke about how the football coaching staff was all getting raises after the season.  Now, let me state that it is usually public news about the salary of a head coach at a school like Texas.  These salaries are ridiculous so them making three million dollars is not all that much in comparison to other head coaches.

What really stood out to me when looking at the salaries was those of the other coaches on staff.  These coaches have put in a great deal of time to get to where they are today so there it wasn’t an easy ride by any means.  However, it is jaw dropping when you look at these numbers.

This shows to me the importance of the football recruiting process.  If a school like Texas doesn’t get amazing athletes, they are likely not going to be able to win in the Big 12 and at the national level.  If that were to happen, these coaches obviously would be fired because getting high quality players in Austin is among the easiest places to bring in recruits.

Anyways, take a look at the numbers these coaches will be paid in 2009.  This does not include any bonuses (such as a Big 12 championship).  I am also not exactly sure if it includes money from summer camps (I would guess not because they make so much but I honestly cannot say for sure one way or another).
