Weekend Recruiting Links

Posted by admin | September 21, 2007 .

Athletic scholarships are given out to a lot of Florida athletesAs always, there have been a great deal of very interesting links throughout the week involving recruiting throughout the entire country.  Here are some of the best ones that I got my hands on:

Jucos benefit from change in recruiting regulations – Examiner.comWhile this site has yet to touch much on those considering the Junior College level or even going to the Junior College level, these programs are benefiting from changes in recruiting regulations.  Until 2000, coaches were allowed to make first contact and recruit only within their own community college district, a specific region near the school that makes up each institution’s student body. After 2000, the COA established the contiguous district act, a ruling that stipulated coaches could recruit within any community college district that touched their own district’s geographic boundaries.

College football: Florida programs come from fertile ground – MySanAntonio.comApparently the state of Florida produces a lot of football talent?  I can’t say I am shocked by that at all.  - In 1995, the Big Three represented the extent of the state’s participation in I-A football. Now, seven schools share the stage. The newcomers — Central Florida, South Florida, Florida Atlantic and Florida International — have a combined 19 full seasons in the major-college ranks. Yet, their impact has been felt in significant ways.

NCAA Football July Champs Again – GameDaily.comThis talks about NCAA Football for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 and discussed my favorite part of the entire game, the recruiting aspect.  – Like Florida producing a lot of talented athletes, that should not surprise many people.  "I think we did a great job with [the new recruiting and campus legend] features no doubt; we completely reinvented the way you play both Dynasty and Campus Legend," described Boyd. "But I think our real strength is the strong passionate base of college football fans. We really push ourselves to be true to the sport of college football."

Bielema says there’s no negative recruiting at Wisconsin – Detnews.com - There has been a lot of talk about how the Badgers negative recruit and that may be something I touch in a future recruiting article.  -Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema gave a rather diplomatic answer Tuesday during a teleconference when asked if his program could benefit from the struggles being experienced by Notre Dame and Michigan.  "I’m not oblivious to the fact you can make phone calls and shoot the breeze and tell (recruits) how things are," Bielema said. "(But) we don’t talk about other programs at Wisconsin. We only talk about our own."

Sex Scandals, Stadium Sponsors, and National TV – Slate.comA few interesting article that rips on high school football of all things.  This can happen in the bigger schools but the majority do not do it, I hope.  – Yet I’m not happy to see Northwestern playing on national TV. Mortified is a more accurate term. I’m not worried that national attention might expose Northwestern as one of the worst schools in Florida, which it certainly is, or that viewers will blanch when they hear that all of the team’s coaches were fired in the aftermath of a sex scandal. No, I’m worried because nothing could be less constructive for Northwestern—or any high school, for that matter—than to become a "national program." After a decade following prep sports, I can say this with confidence: When a dynasty emerges in high-school sports, there’s probably something crooked going on.
