http://recruiting-101.com/images/okstadium.jpgAs always, there have been a great deal of very interesting links throughout the week involving recruiting throughout the entire country.  Here are some of the best ones that I got my hands on:

  • Harbaugh all about honesty, and football - SFGate.com
When thinking about head coaches at the Division I level, the first thing that is not thought of is honesty.  While coaches like Roy Williams and others appear to have a very clean image, many are shady and will do whatever they can do win.  When talking about Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh, that may be true that he is all but honest.  He has already called out Pete Carroll at USC and his alma mater, Michigan.  This all before he has coached one college game.
  • Billionaire fan puts Cowboys on map - AJC.com
Oklahoma State can really thank T. Boone Pickens for giving a lot to their athletic programs.  This rich boaster has given the largest one time gift from a single donor and that was an astounding 165 million dollars.  I wish I had that much money sitting around to give to a program that I followed.  Any time a school gets that kind of money, it really does help things with facilities and that in turn helps recruiting.
  • Tough Choice Becomes Easy - theday.com
An interesting recruiting journey with Heather Buck, one of the top girl’s basketball players in the country.  She eventually picked UCONN and will be signing there in the fall.  But even with her skills, doubt did creep in:  “There were some times where I was like, ‘I don’t know if I can do this and I don’t know why people think I can,’” Buck said. “Sometimes I watched other people play and I thought, ‘Oh, I’m supposed to be able to do that in a year and a half. Oh, boy.’”
  • Diversity dilemma - GatorSports.com
This article takes a look at the lack of diversity in college football, especially in the SEC.  One of the most shocking studies was this: Of 186 head coaching positions at the 12 member schools, 15 are held by minorities.
  • Recruitment trail is never-ending - Contra Costa Times
It doesn’t matter what school you are at, as a Division I head coach in just about any sport recruiting never stops.  Right after Signing a class in February, these coaches must look ahead to the following class and should already have a good feel of what players they are serious about in recruiting.  This is the path that California head football coach Jeff Tedford took:  On a Sunday morning, Tedford flew to Bakersfield. That afternoon he caught another flight to Phoenix. The next morning, he was on a plane to Chicago. Then Philadelphia, where he rented a car and drove to Trenton, N.J., then drove back to Philadelphia. Where he got on another plane and flew to Nashville that night. On Tuesday, Tedford was off to Dallas. Then Las Vegas. And finally, he flew home to the Bay Area.
