NCAA releases their APR sanctions

Posted by admin | May 8, 2008 .

NCAA releases their APR sanctionsOver the past few years, the NCAA has implemented the Academic Progress Rates as a way to determine which schools continue to struggle to have their players graduate. It may have to do with an athlete transferring, leaving early for the professional level, or struggling academically.

The APR is a really big deal. Some coaches have their APR percentage tied into their contract so it will be something that they keep a very close eye on. And if schools struggle over time, the number of scholarships that they can give will be effected. With the NCAA coming out with their APR sanctions, a number of schools in football and basketball will have their scholarships cut over the next few years.

There were seventeen Division I-A football schools (Also known as BCS schools) that were hit. These schools include:

Akron: Limit of 80 next year
Buffalo: 83
Central Michigan: 83
FAU: 82
FIU: 82
Hawaii: 84
Idaho: 77
Kansas: 83

North Texas: 80
San Diego State: 79

Toledo: 79
UAB: 76
UNLV: 84
Washington State: 77

The number next to their name is the amount of scholarships that they will be limited to. With the NCAA limit being 85, a school like UAB will have to go without nine scholarships next season.

Here are the fifty three basketball programs that were effected:
