Miscellaneous Athletic Recruiting Ramblings - 7/26/2008Recruiting-101′s Position-by-Position Football Recruiting E-Book
Sorry for those readers who have been waiting for this but I finally was able to finish up the e-book earlier this week and it is now currently for sale for $5.00.  This 28-page e-book breaks down the recruiting process for each individual position on the football field.  From defensive end to quarterback, it is all there.  While there are other recruiting e-books out there for hundreds of dollars, the reason that I priced it at only $5.00 is because I want as many people using this advice as possible.  If you are currently going through the football recruiting process, this e-book can be a huge benefit for you.  It may be the best $5.00 you spend during the recruiting process.  Click here for more information on the e-book and instructions to order via Paypal.

Favorite Articles from last week
I thought I might as well plug some of the top articles from this past week, especially for those users who missed them when they were posted:
What should I expect at college football camps?
What are the benefits of being listed in the Rivals, Scout, or ESPN football or basketball databases?
How do I make a football recruiting or basketball recruiting highlight video – Part 1
How do I make a football recruiting or basketball recruiting highlight video – Part 2
What college coach should I send my recruiting profile to?
A basketball recruit making a verbal commitment makes no sense right now

AAU Basketball
The AAU summer basketball circuit is nearly complete.  After so many athletes have been traveling the country throughout the summer months, these basketball players will either be switching their focus over to football or continuing to improve on the basketball court.  While there are a few days left, I want to stress that there is no better way to help yourself during the basketball recruiting process than on the AAU circuit.  It is tough if you are not on a team but AAU is your in with college coaches.  While these coaches may only watch you one game or one half, it is your best chance to catch the eye of someone who may not normally recruit your area.  While there are some things that I dislike about AAU basketball, the exposure cannot be compared to anything in any other sport.

Troubled Athlete of the Week
With all the trouble that athletes are getting into across the country, I may as well start a troubled athlete of the week post.  This article is a little bit old (Nearly a month now) but I have actually been meaning to post it for sometime.  Here is another great story following Alabama:

Alabama’s already thin linebacker corps took another hit Tuesday when senior Jimmy Johns was dismissed from the team following his arrest on multiple drug charges.  Jimmy Johns, the 10th Alabama football player arrested within the past year, is jailed in Tuscaloosa on $120,000 bond.

Johns, who was moved from running back to linebacker this spring, was arrested Tuesday morning in Tuscaloosa and charged with five felony counts of distributing cocaine.  A sixth charge of possession was also tacked on after police officers searched his off-campus residence and found cocaine and Ecstasy pills, according to Tuscaloosa Police Department Capt. Jeff Snyder, who heads up the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force.

The importance of intangibles in recruiting
I am link another ESPN article but Bill Conley wrote a great piece about the intangibles during the recruiting process.  He brought up some great stories about athletes that he has recruited during his time as a coach.  The four he mentioned are effort, leadership, team attitude, and intelligence.  While I agree with all of them, I do hope to write an article with my thoughts on each and a few others as well.  Click here for the entire article.
